A. You must have a learner's permit. You can get your learners at age 15 and 6 months old. You are required to hold your learner's permit for 9 months. During this time, you should complete the supervised practice time requirement with a parent or another licensed driver at least 21 years old.
The supervised practice requirement is: You must have had at least 45 total supervised practice hours, 15 of which must be after sunset.
B. You must have successfully completed the 36 period driver education classroom requirement.
C. You must complete 14 periods of behind the wheel instruction, 7 periods of driving and 7 periods of observation of another driver*. A period is considered 50 minutes of instruction.
*for the time being, the observation period has been waived by DMV. This could change as restrictions are removed as the COVID situation improves.

THESE CLASSES ARE AVAILABLE FOR THOSE AGE 18 AND OLDER, HOWEVER, TO BE EXAMINED BY A PRIVATE DRIVING SCHOOL...
A. you must have completed the 36 period classroom and
B. you must take the behind the wheel with others age 18 or older.
For the above classes a deposit of $100.00 is required and the balance is due by the end of the class.
* The driver education classroom is also the re-examination course for those under the age of 18 that failed the learner's test 3 times and did not successfully complete the 36 period classroom in school or with a private driving school.
